I am spending the summer before my junior year conducting research in Dr. David Smith’s lab at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The research focus is centered around applications of circadian biology in a hospital setting. This study of circadian medicine caters to my fascination with the central clock, while furthering it by demonstrating practical applications of circadian biology. My position requires me to familiarize myself with topics via literature searches, present relevant papers in lab meetings, analyze DNA and RNA samples using different techniques, explore machine learning on behalf of the Genomics in Sleep Study, and prepare a final poster to present at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine research symposium.
